Aqaba Bar & Kitchen
Welcome to Aqaba – a true Palmerston North icon, reimagined for a new era.
Established in 1995, Aqaba has long been a cornerstone of the city’s dining and nightlife scene. Set within one of Palmerston North’s most distinctive heritage buildings on Broadway Avenue, the venue carries a rich and layered history. Originally constructed in 1932 as a Freemasons’ lodge, the building later evolved through various chapters before becoming the iconic Aqaba restaurant and bar that locals have known for over three decades. Today, that legacy lives on, thoughtfully preserved and reimagined for a modern dining experience.
Aqaba now enters an exciting new chapter as a partnership of passionate Palmerston North locals, bringing renewed energy and a strong connection to the community. At the heart of this is Executive Chef Mark Harman, whose acclaimed international career spans private dining, high-end hospitality, and culinary leadership across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific -including the honour of cooking for members of the British royal family. His approach is grounded in creative, ingredient-driven cuisine that reflects both global influence and refined technique.
Complementing this is the involvement of Streff Drysdale, owner and operator of Redline Coffee. Known for his commitment to quality sourcing and roasting, Streff brings a deep understanding of the local hospitality scene and a passion for delivering exceptional coffee and beverage experiences.
Together, these partnerships brings a distinctly local touch to an iconic venue – combining world-class culinary expertise with community-driven values.
At Aqaba, guests can expect refined cuisine, expertly crafted cocktails, and a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere. Whether it’s a relaxed lunch, an intimate dinner, or a lively evening out, Aqaba offers an experience that is both elevated and uniquely Palmerston North.
More than just a restaurant, Aqaba is a place where the city comes together – to dine, connect, and create new memories.
